It's only a week until your exam and we have no lessons left. So, in terms of what you can do to prepare and revise:
- Complete/Revise your newspaper case study - you will need to be able to reference your case study accurately in the exam
- Look at some of the past papers and mark schemes on the internet. Here is a link to the OCR website: http://www.ocr.org.uk/qualifications/type/gce/amlw/media_studies/documents/index.html
- If you want to have a go at any practice essays, please do so and if you send them to me, I'll mark them and give you some feedback.
Best of luck to you all,
Mr Kirkaldy

Where the hell is everyone?
Hi guys,
I only have FIVE students in my lesson today! This is ridiculous with the exam only two weeks away. We are now revising the key skills that YOU will need in YOUR exam. We are looking at exam technique, mark schemes, past material, etc. If you don't come to these lessons you are drastically reducing your chances of doing well in the exam.
I also haven't received ANY of the essays I set last week (see previous blog entry). Again, this is unacceptable. This is your chance to practise the skills you will need to use in the exam and receive feedback on how to get better. You don't want to be trying this stuff for the first time in the exam.
A more mature approach to your studies is required! (Apologies to those people that DID turn up - this rant is not directed at you).

1st lesson back after Easter
Hi all,
I'm afraid I'm not going to be in today's lesson because I'm in an all-day coursework moderation meeting (including your coursework!). In my absence, here is the work you need to do:
I’m not going to be in today’s lesson either as I’m going to be in a moderation meeting all day. The work I’ve left for the group to do is:
Use your Daily Mirror case study to do this exam questions under exam conditions:
“Media production is dominated by global institutions, which sell their products to national audiences.” To what extent do you agree with this statement?
You should:
• Make detailed reference to your Daily Mirror case study in your response
• Make references to other relevant media
You have 20 minutes to discuss and plan your response, then one hour to write your essay.
Please complete this work in your own time between now and our next lesson (Tuesday 3rd May).
If you weren't in the last lesson before Easter and therefore haven't done your Daily Mirror case study, use the handout at the front of the class to put yours together. You will need to do both your case study and your essay for next lesson (Tuesday 3rd May).
Any questions, email me.
Thanks,
Mr Kirkaldy

Deadline and Evaluation
Hi all,
The deadline for your practical production is: Monday 28th March.
By this stage you must also have completed your evaluation.
This needs to include:
The deadline for your practical production is: Monday 28th March.
By this stage you must also have completed your evaluation.
This needs to include:
- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
- How does your media product represent particular social groups?
- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
- Who would be the audience for your media product?
- How did you attract/address your audience?
- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Your evaluation should be written individually and posted onto your blog (along with your final product).
The mark scheme for your coursework is:
- Research: 20 marks
- Production: 60 marks
- Evaluation: 20 marks
You need to get cracking.
